There seemed to be few new or exciting announcements, which is perhaps to be expected given the imminent election and the Chancellor may want to keep some powder dry for a subsequent Budget, should the Conservatives remain in office.

Budget/Finance Bill 2014
George Osborne’s fifth Budget speech took place on 19 March 2014.  As with all Budgets in recent times there has already been much media coverage of the speech and various announcements made.  In addition, much of the Finance Bill content was released for consultation in December 2013 and some of the Budget content has been “leaked” over recent weeks, although this year there were certainly some surprises.

UNIVERSAL TAX CREDITS
Over the next few years the Universal Tax Credit system will gradually replace a number of current welfare benefits, in particular Working and Child Tax Credits, Unemployment and Housing Benefits.
